School dominates multimedia categories at CPOY

Students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media swept the multimedia project category and won 10 awards total in the 65th College Photographer of the Year competition.

Judges reviewed 14,140 still images and 230 multimedia projects submitted by 670 student photographers from 150 universities in 12 different countries.

Projects from “Powering a Nation,” UNC’s News21 project that investigates energy issues in the U.S., won gold, silver and an award of excellence in the multimedia project category. Master’s student Elena Rue won bronze for “The Great Wide Open” to give Carolina a sweep in the category.

“Powering a Nation” also won gold in the large group multimedia category. Carolina Photojournalism’s “CPJW 2010: Little Switzerland” won bronze in the same category.

Senior Arkasha Stevenson won a silver medal in spot news and a bronze in the individual multimedia story or essay category. Senior John Adkisson won an award of excellence in the general news, and senior Caitlyn Greene won an award of excellence in the individual multimedia story or essay category.
