School places second in Hearst Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition

The school finished second in the Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, considered the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism.

Carly Brantmeyer, a May 2010 graduate of the school, won second place in the Picture Story/Series Competition, the third and final photojournalism competition. She will receive a $2,000 award for the win. Alexandra Brawley, a senior from Wrightsville Beach, N.C., placed eighth.

Brantmeyer and Brawley were selected from among 58 entries submitted from 37 schools nationwide.

In the previous two photojournalism competitions, Arkasha Stevenson placed second and Jessey Dearing placed fourth in the portrait/personality, feature and “personal vision” category, and Stephen Mitchell placed eighth in the news and sports category. Total points from those competitions helped the school to the second-place finish in intercollegiate photojournalism.
