Students selected as Dow Jones News Fund interns

Two school students were selected to work as news copy editors this summer at The New York Times as part of the Dow Jones News Fund.

Rising seniors Pressley Baird from Mebane, N.C., and Reyna Desai from Dubai, will train at Temple University in Philadelphia before joining the NYT for a minimum of 10 weeks. They will receive $1,000 scholarships.

This year, the fund offered 84 internships in sports and news copy editors, multimedia editors and business reporting. Interns were selected from among 600 applicants.

"At a time when the news industry is undergoing a major transformation and it isn't clear what it will eventually look like, the commitment of publishers to train a new generation of journalists is both critical and encouraging," said Rich Holden, executive director of the Dow Jones News Fund.
