Therapy DogsTherapy dogs will return to the J-school on University reading days to relieve the stress of UNC students, faculty and staff during fall semester exams.

Nov. 14-16: Reporting Sex Trafficking

Reporting Sex Trafficking: A Local Problem with Global Dimensions The school will host a McCormick Specialized Reporting Institute — Reporting Sex Trafficking: A Local Problem with Global Dimensions — to help reporters cover issues of sex trafficking responsibly and accurately in an effort to raise the public's awareness.

Nov. 4: Wade H. Hargrove Communications Law and Policy Colloquium

Hargrove ColloqiumThe UNC Center for Media Law and Policy will present the inaugural colloquium featuring Hearst TV chairman and CEO David Barrett and ABC News president Ben Sherwood at 5:30 p.m. at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center on the UNC campus. The colloquium is named for Wade Hargrove, a nationally recognized attorney and former chair of UNC's Board of Trustees.

Oct. 25: J-school Ambassadors internship fair

J-school Ambassadors to host internship fairLooking for an internship? The J-school Ambassadors will host an internship fair Friday, Oct. 25, from 3-5 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Center on the third floor of Carroll Hall.

Sept. 24: First Amendment Day

First Amendment DayEach year, UNC celebrates the First Amendment Day and explores the Amendment's role in the lives of students during the campus-wide, daylong First Amendment Day. University community members read from banned books, sing controversial music and discuss the importance of each of the rights protected by the First Amendment, the need to be tolerant when others exercise their rights and the public university’s special role as a marketplace of ideas.

Carolina Sports Journalism CampThe J-school hosts this four-day workshop, which includes sessions on play-by-play broadcast, sports writing, sports photography and more, for high schoolers interested in sports journalism. Lecturer and former Sports Illustrated senior writer Tim Crothers leads the camp.

July 7-12: Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media

Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and MediaThe Chuck Stone Program honors the legacy of the J-school professor emeritus who retired in 2005 by providing 12 high school students of varying diversity with a weeklong workshop of classroom instruction, real-world reporting, multi-platform storytelling and professional mentorship.
