‘Edge of the Sound’ recognized in Webby Awards and Horizon Interactive Awards

"Edge of the Sound," a UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media interactive project, was selected as an Official Honoree in the 19th Annual Webby Awards in the online video – travel & adventure category.

"Edge of the Sound" is an interactive multimedia website that explores the fascinating lives and stories of North Carolinians along the southwestern edge of the Albemarle Sound.

This year's Webby Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from all 50 U.S. states and more than 60 countries worldwide. From the thousands of global entries submitted to the Webby Awards, only the top 20 percent were selected as Official Honorees.

“Edge of the Sound” also was awarded three gold medals in the 2014 Horizon Interactive Awards in the Video: Documentary/Short Film, Websites: School/University and Websites: Travel/Tourism categories. The Horizon Interactive Awards received more than 1,200 entries internationally.

“Edge of the Sound” was created during the 2014 Carolina Photojournalism Workshop, which takes UNC multimedia students to a unique part of the state to produce a documentary website in a week.

The project was directed by professor Pat Davison. Davison led “Living Galapagos”, a People’s Voice Webby Award winner in 2014, and has led previous award-winning projects in Thailand, Mexico, Argentina and North Carolina.
