Carol Reuss (1932 – 2018)

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Professor Emeritus Carol Reuss died Monday, Dec. 31, 2018.

Reuss was a pioneer as one of the first women on the faculty when she joined the school in 1976. She taught the first public relations courses in the school and helped build the school's PR specialization.

After teaching, Reuss served as an associate provost at UNC from 1987-94. She was inducted into the NC Media and Journalism Hall of Fame in 1996

In retirement, Reuss remained an active voice in the school community and an advocate for women’s leadership.

In Fall 2012, Associate Professor Barbara Friedman and then-student Marissa Rupp '13 produced an oral history in 2012 that traces Reuss’ career.
