Celebrating ten years of online education

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media offered its first online course in Spring 2003 with the launch of the Certificate in Technology and Communication. Building on the success and proven track record of the Certificate program, the School developed the fully online Master of Arts in Technology and Communicationin Fall 2011. Both programs offer communicators working in the field a rigorous education without taking time away from their careers or moving to Chapel Hill.

On August 12, the School marked 10 years of online education for working professionals with a networking reception in Carroll Hall for graduates, current students, faculty and staff from both programs.

"The UNC J-school was ahead of the curve on e-learning initiatives a decade ago and hasn't let up since," said Louise Spieler, senior associate dean for strategy and administration, who oversees the programs and spearheaded development of the MATC.  "It was wonderful to see so many of our students and faculty at the reception.  We're thrilled that so many high-achieving professionals have chosen to enhance their skills and knowledge through our programs."
