David L. Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast Corp., will discuss “The Democratization of Media” at the second annual Wade H. Hargrove Media Law and Policy Colloquium on March 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. The event is sponsored by the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy. It is free and open to the public.

Cohen will be joined by Donald A. Baer, worldwide chair and chief executive officer of Burson-Marsteller, who will talk to Cohen about changes in the landscape of U.S. media and content distribution.

Cohen has a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including corporate communications, government and regulatory affairs, public affairs, legal affairs, corporate administration, and community investment, and he serves as senior counselor to the CEO. He also is the company’s chief diversity officer.

Baer has played leading roles for a wide range of important business, government, and non-profit organizations. He has had extensive strategic, creative, and operational experience at the White House, major global companies, and media organizations.

The colloquium is named in honor of Wade H. Hargrove, former chair of the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees and the driving force behind the creation of the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy. The colloquium was established and funded by various media companies and friends of Hargrove as a forum for discussion and debate on contemporary media issues.

The UNC Center for Media Law and Policy is an interdisciplinary research center run jointly out of the UNC-Chapel Hill Hussman School of Journalism and Media and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. The center serves as a forum for study and debate about the broad array of media law and policy issues facing North Carolina, the nation and the world.
