Dean Susan King on Charlotte Talks: Revitalizing American Journalism

UNC Hussman Dean Susan King joined WFAE’s Charlotte Talks show to discuss local media in the digital age. Host Mike Collins led a discussion with King, Steve Waldman, president of Report for America, and Alexandra Watts of Mississippi Public Broadcasting. The expert panel evaluated the threats to local journalism from digital media and talked about possible solutions. King also expressed her optimism for finding new approaches to local reporting and discussed the work being done by the Hussman school — particularly Penny Abernathy and the Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Local Media — to study the issue.
