Hussman School announces new graduate program degree names

The university recently approved the School of Media and Journalism’s request to rename its four graduate programs, effective Fall 2018.

The new degree names are as follows:

The Ph.D. in Media and Communication and M.A. in Media and Communication are the Hussman School’s on-campus graduate programs in Chapel Hill. The new degree names more aptly capture the full range of scholarly work of the school — from mass communication to health communication, political communication, media law, media effects and other research areas. The new name for the residential master’s program also captures the full range of professional training the school provides in the fields of journalism, advertising and public relations.

The names of the online M.A. in Digital Communication and Certificate in Digital Communication were changed to better reflect those programs’ curricula. Both online programs are designed for working communications professionals and are still accepting applications for this fall. Applications to the online master’s program are due June 12.

The four new program names are for students beginning study this fall and beyond. Students currently enrolled in the programs will graduate with the former degree names.
