Hussman School seniors, alumna accepted into 2018 Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP)

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media seniors Barbrianna Adams '18 and Jackie Swan '18 and alumna Laura Gamo '16 will participate in the 4A’s prestigious Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP).

In its 44th year, MAIP is charged with providing and showcasing "the advertising industry with the best talent through world-class development opportunities." The 22-week program connects students with paid, full-time internships at advertising and public relations agencies around the United States. In the 12 weeks prior to beginning their internships, fellows participate in virtual training sessions to prepare for agency life. During their internships, fellows work with mentors and complete a capstone project. At the end of the summer, 4A hosts a Face of Talent networking symposium where fellows and industry professionals convene.

Barbrianna Adams '18

Advertising senior Barbrianna Adams '18 will intern at Edelman Los Angeles in Summer 2018. During her time in the Hussman School, Adams has served as an ABC11 fellow and interned at McKinney Durham, where she was named the McKinney 2017 Joni Madison Mtern Diversity Scholar. The Joni Madison scholarship aims to support underrepresented students who have made an impact on campus or in their communities.

Laura Gamo '16

Alumna Laura Gamo '16 has now been a MAIP fellow for two consecutive years. As an undergraduate at the Hussman School, Gamo studied public relations and double majored in global studies. She was part of the 2016 Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, where her topic of research was NGO agenda setting during the 2015 Syrian refugee crisis under the guidance of Assistant Professor Adam Saffer. Gamo is currently pursuing a master's in advertising and public relations at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In 2017, Gamo interned at R/GA in New York City. She will intern at Edelman New York City in Summer 2018.

Jackie Swan '18

Public relations senior Jackie Swan '18 has most recently served as a digital marketing intern for 3 Birds Marketing LLC in Chapel Hill. Since transferring to UNC in 2016, Swan has been an account associate for Heelprint Communications, the Hussman School’s student-run communications agency. In Summer 2018, she will intern at Digitas Chicago.
