J-school students win top multimedia and radio awards from Broadcast Education Association

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media students won nine awards in the 2013 Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, including top honors in the interactive multimedia and radio news competitions.

The school’s Powering a Nation team took best of festival honors in the interactive multimedia competition for “100 Gallons.” Electronic communication senior Grace Joyal received best of festival in the radio news competition for her radio feature “Cats find refuge with Pittsboro artist.”

Best of festival winners each win $1,000. 

May 2012 graduate Patrick Wright placed first in the television feature reporting category for the “Carolina Week” television newscast report “New Towing Law.” Carolina Week’s Drew Day won first place in the weathercaster category.

The BEA Festival of Media Arts is an international exhibition of award-winning faculty and student work. Winners will receive recognition and exhibition of their work during the BEA annual convention in Las Vegas from April 7-10.
