Two Hussman School students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society
Phi Beta Kappa, the prestigious academic honorary society founded in 1776, recently inducted two students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media as new members.
The UNC chapter, Alpha of North Carolina, was founded in 1904 and is the oldest of seven chapters in the state. Of the 124 new inductees, 95 are from North Carolina.
The Fall 2018 induction ceremony featured a keynote address by Buck Goldstein, University Entrepreneur in Residence and professor of the practice in the economics department. New members received certificates and Phi Beta Kappa keys, the organization’s symbol.
Hussman School recipients include:
- Brooke Noel Fisher '19 (media and journalism and global studies double major; Chinese minor)
- Sarah Elizabeth Krug '17 (media and journalism and anthropology double major)
One UNC-Chapel Hill student chose not to be listed.
Less than 1 percent of all college students qualify for the honor, which is open to undergraduates in the college and professional degree programs who meet stringent eligibility requirements: completion of 75 hours of course work in the liberal arts and sciences with a GPA of 3.85 or better (on a 4-point scale) or 105 hours of course work in the liberal arts and sciences with a 3.75 GPA.
