UNC Hussman School faculty at National Communication Conference in Las Vegas; Saffer wins top public relations faculty paper award

Four UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media faculty members are participating in the National Communication Association in Las Vegas Nov. 19-22, 2015. Assistant professors Joe Cabosky, Dan Kim, Allison Lazard and Adam Saffer will present papers or participate in panel discussions.

Saffer will present his paper —“Zones of Meaning in Networks: A Mixed-Methods Approach to the Studying Social Capital” — which won the top public relations faculty research paper award.

Cabosky will lead the panel discussion “Michael Sam and the Media: Embracing — and Exploiting — the Opportunities Presented by an Openly Gay NFL Player.”

Kim will present the paper “Proximal or distant to cancer?: The effect psychological distance toward a disease and health community has on health communication effectiveness.”

Lazard will present two papers — “Improving Gestational Weight Gain and Breastfeeding Promotion: Visual Communication to Overcome Health Literacy Barriers” and “The Persuasive Effects of Photo Manipulation on Non-Rational Processing: Consumers’ Responses to Advertising.” 

The National Communication Association advances communication as the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media,and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific and aesthetic inquiry.
