'Whole Hog' honored by SND in digital design contest

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media's Powering A Nation project won two awards of excellence in the Society for News Design's (SND) 2014 Best of Digital Design Competition for "Whole Hog."

"Whole Hog" — a special report from the school's award-winning multimedia project, Powering A Nation, that investigates the energy dynamics within North Carolina's hog industry — was recognized in the Features: Single-Subject Project and Use of Media categories. Other honorees in the categories included The Washington Post, NPR, the Associated Press and The Globe and Mail, among others.

The SND Best of Digital Design Competition was held the weekend of Feb. 20 at the Ball State University Indianapolis Center. The contest had more than 900 entries, the largest number of entries since it was established in 2002.

"Whole Hog" was honored earlier this year in the 72nd annual Pictures of the Year (POY) in the News & Issue Editing – Magazine category.
