Winter Storm Diego affects Hussman School exams

UPDATE: According to the Alert Carolina announcement made on Monday, Dec. 10, at 5:46 p.m., the University will stay in Condition 2 until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Semester exams — outside of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media — originally scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, will be rescheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Exams within the Hussman School originally scheduled to begin prior to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, will be rescheduled on a course-by-course basis. Hussman School students should check with their instructors to determine new exam times and locations.

At 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the University will move to Condition 1. Condition 1 will expire at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. 

When the University moves to Condition 1 at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, semester exams will be held as scheduled.

Condition 2 – Suspended Operations. The University is open for only for mandatory operations.

  • Classes are canceled.
  • All non-mandatory operations are suspended; only mandatory employees must report to or remain work.
  • Non-faculty (staff) non-mandatory employees must not report, or must leave campus. These employees use leave time if not working or can use make-up time subject to applicable rules.
  • Alternatively, and only with supervisor approval, non-mandatory employees may work from home or an alternate site.
  • Mandatory employees must report to or remain at work unless otherwise notified.

Condition 1 – Reduced Operations. The University is open.

  • Classes will operate on a regular schedule.
  • Individual faculty may use discretion to adjust class schedules and arrange make-up work for students unable to report to class due to the weather event.
  • Non-faculty (staff) non-mandatory employees, after informing their supervisors in a timely manner, have the option to report to work late, leave early, or not report to work. These employees must use available personal leave time to cover any time away from regular work hours.
  • Alternatively, and only with supervisor approval, non-mandatory employees may work from home or an alternate site.
  • Mandatory employees must report to or remain at work unless otherwise notified.

VISIT ALERT CAROLINA

According to the Alert Carolina announcement made on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4:54 p.m., the University will stay in Condition 2 until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. 

Semester exams — including those for the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media — originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10, are canceled and will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Additionally, the Park Library will be closed during Condition 2.

A decision regarding the operating status for Tuesday, Dec. 11 will be communicated no later than 7 p.m. on Monday.
