J-school team named runner-up in Brand North Carolina Project competition

A team of students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media was named runner-up in the Brand North Carolina Strategy Case Competition.

UNC Creative Strategists — which included Josh Carlton, Rebekah Meyers, Angus Robertson, Erica Sobel and Rebecca Stephenson — was among 10 finalists, narrowed from an initial 106 teams.

Each team was tasked with presenting a brand position for the State of North Carolina, along with an organizing brand concept. Teams were asked to address at a minimum the following elements: brand position, brand promise, brand personality and brand story. Finalists were selected on a basis of quality of deliverable content and presentation.

Finalists presented in front of a live audience and panel of judges April 12 at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh.

The Brand North Carolina Project is conducted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise and is sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The project seeks to assemble basic research findings, core concepts and examples of creative expression for a statewide brand. For more information about the Brand North Carolina Project, visit brandnc.org.
