J-school students win TV and radio awards from Broadcast Education Association

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media students in the broadcast and electronic journalism specialization won seven awards in the 2015 Broadcast Education Association's (BEA) Festival of Media Arts.

Master's student Jess Clark won first place in the Radio Hard News Reporting category for her Carolina Connection report "Ridesharing Apps Cause Concern for Local Taxi Company." Sports Xtra — the school's weekly sports highlights, analysis and commentary show — won first place in the TV Sports News category for its April 21, 2014, broadcast produced by senior Luis Fernandez.

The Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts is a competitive festival open to BEA individual faculty and student. In the 2014 competition, the festival received more than 1,250 entries in 15 competitions. Winners will receive their awards during BEA’s annual convention and Festival of Media Arts April 12-15 in Las Vegas.
