Park Fellow receives Alexia Foundation grant

Kelly Creedon, a second-year master's student and Roy H. Park Fellow at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, received an Award of Excellence in the 2015 Alexia Foundation Grants program.

Creedon was selected for her project submission "Being 15: Navigating Adolescence as a Young Black Male" — an exploration of the complex challenges of young black adolescents coming of age in America today through the lens of one young man.

Creedon will receive a $1,500 tuition credit for the Syracuse University London Program or tuition for the Momenta Photo Workshop or the Kalish visual editing workshop, a $500 cash grant for her proposed project, and a $100 gift certificate for photo and video equipment.

Creedon is pursuing a master’s degree in visual communication. She was the editor-in-chief and a videographer for the award-winning interactive documentary "Whole Hog: The Power of Pork." Her work has been recognized by College Photographer of the Year and Pictures of the Year International. Before coming to UNC, she worked as a Boston-based multimedia producer. She is a 2008 graduate of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.

The Alexia Foundation promotes the power of photojournalism to give voice to social justice. Through grants, scholarships and special projects, the foundation supports photographers as agents for change.
