Senior places 3rd in Hearst multimedia competition

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media student Isabella Bartolucci placed third in the multimedia enterprise reporting category of the 2014-15 Hearst Journalism Awards.

Bartolucci, a senior photojournalism major from Weddington, N.C., won third-place honors for "Fishing With Jesus," which tells the story of two brothers who own a commercial fishing business in northeastern North Carolina. The video was produced for "Edge of the Sound" — a collection of narratives from the lowlands along the edge of the Albemarle Sound created during the 2014 Carolina Photojournalism Workshop.

Her work was selected from 42 entries submitted from students at 25 schools. She will receive a $1,500 award for the win.

After three of four multimedia categories, UNC is in second place of the Hearst Intercollegiate Multimedia Competition.

Earlier in the year, Emily Rhyne and Callaghan O'Hare placed second and third, respectively, in the narrative multimedia storytelling features category. Robert Cameron and Viviana Bonilla Lopez finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the multimedia news category.

UNC placed first in the 2014-15 Hearst Intercollegiate Broadcast Competition.

In the 2013-14 Intercollegiate Competition — spanning writing, broadcast and multimedia — the school finished fourth overall.

The school has finished in the top 5 overall of the Hearst competitions every year since 2004.
