6 UNC J-school students competing in Hearst national championships

Six UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media students are finalists in the national Hearst Journalism Awards Program showcasing outstanding collegiate journalism.

UNC’s Callaghan O’Hare, Carolyn Van Houten, Charles J. Shelton, Parth Shah, Susanna Black and Emily Rhyne are competing in the writing, photojournalism, radio/TV and multimedia championships in San Francisco June 1-5 – competing in spot assignments for scholarship awards up to $5,000.

 

  • O’Hare, a senior from San Antonio, is competing in the Photojournalism finals.

 

  • Van Houten, May 2015 graduate from Fountain, NC, is competing in the Photojournalism finals.

 

  • Shelton, May 2015 graduate from Greenville, NC, is competing in the Radio finals.

 

  • Shah, May 2015 graduate from Chapel Hill, NC, is competing in the Radio finals.

 

  • Black, May 2015 graduate from Concord, NC, is competing in the TV finals.

 

  • Rhyne, a senior from Wilson, NC, is competing in the Multimedia finals.
