UNC J-school community to present at ICA conference in London June 17-21

Five faculty members, nine graduate students and three alumni will represent the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the International Communication Association’s (ICA) 63rd annual conference in London June 17-21.

The Carolina contingent will present 14 authored or co-authored papers and serve on multiple panels. Faculty members Sri Kalyanaraman and Daniel Kreiss earned top paper honors for the conference. 

Kalyanaraman’s "Overcoming Consumer Suspicion of Advocacy Advertising: An Exploration of the Persuasive Effects of Self-Brand Connections," co-authored with 2011 doctoral alumna Christina Malik, was named top paper in the Health Communication Division. Kreiss’s "Political Performance and Active Spectatorship: Symbolically Organizing the Polity During the 2012 Democratic National Convention," which he co-authored with doctoral student Laura Meadows and May 2013 master’s graduate John Remensperger, was named a top three faculty paper.
