J-school partnership with A.J. Fletcher Foundation and WUNC creates post-graduate fellowship in education reporting

A.J. Fletcher FoundationThe A.J. Fletcher Foundation has created a post-graduate fellowship for graduates of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. The position will be dedicated to reporting on education issues for N.C. Public Radio WUNC.

WUNC is accepting applications for the position through Sept. 5.

WUNCThe two-year Fletcher Fellowship for Education Policy Reporting will enable in-depth reporting of under-covered education issues in North Carolina while also serving as an innovative model for advanced training to develop recent journalism graduates into thoughtful reporters for the community.

The Fletcher Fellow will report quick turn-around spot news, interviews, reporter debriefs and well-researched feature reports with a concentration on statewide PreK-12 education policy. The WUNC news director will supervise the fellow who will work out of WUNC’s Legislative Bureau in Raleigh when the General Assembly is in session.

UNC journalism school faculty will serve as mentors, providing guidance on strategy and content of the reporting, developing multimedia content and negotiating with other media outlets to become partners in distributing the content.
