PR News honors Carroll, Dougall

Craig Carroll

Assistant professor Craig Carroll won the 2008 Educator/Research Expert of the Year award from PR News, tying with Leslie Gaines-Ross, chief reputation strategist with Weber Shandwick. Associate professor Elizabeth Dougall was recognized with an honorable mention. The awards were announced Nov. 6 at the PR People Awards Luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Carroll, who joined the school in fall 2007, was commended for implementing the most up-to-date research technology and procedures in his classes, allowing first-semester PR students to evaluate the media reputations of 18 national nonprofits last year. He secured a $500,000 gift of cutting-edge software from KDPaine & Partners to make the exercise possible for his students.

Elizabeth DougallCarroll's classes combine the use of metrics, technology and data. His approach - which integrates teaching, research and public service - gives students original research experience using current industry applications in the classroom.

Dougall was honored for her work in teaching crisis communication and for her efforts co-leading a five-year, $7 million social marketing campaign focusing on Shaken Baby Syndrome.
