Roy H. Park Fellows Courtney Woo and Greg Efthimiou have been honored in the national Arthur W. Page Corporate Communications Case Study Competition.

Woo, a first year master’s student, won the grand prize for her case study, "Mattel Recalls 2007: Communication Implications for Quality Control, Outsourcing and Consumer Relations." The grand prize is the top overall honor and comes with a $5,000 award.

Greg Efthimiou, a second-year master’s student, won first place in the Communication Schools category with his case study, “Jet Blue Airways: Regaining Altitude After the Valentine’s Day Massacre of 2007.” The honor comes with a $2,500 award.

Assistant professor Elizabeth Dougall received acknowledgment and a cash award as the advisor to both students.

Woo and Dougall will attend an award dinner in New York on April 10.

Last year, Terri Bailey, a doctoral candidate in the school, won the first prize in the Communication Schools division.

The Arthur W. Page Society in alliance with the Institute for Public Relations and the Council for Communication Management, sponsors an annual competition for the writing of original case studies by students enrolled in an accredited school of business, communication or journalism and who are pursuing a degree that focused on corporate communications and the practice of public relations.

The objectives of the competition are to:

- Introduce the practical applications of the core principles that define public relations as a critical function of management to scholars, teachers, and students;

- Encourage research which contributes to the profession's body of knowledge and provides practical suggestions on how to improve the corporate public relations function.
