UNC journalism students place first and fourth in Hearst multimedia competition

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media's Caitlyn Greene took first place in the Hearst Journalism Awards multimedia competition's "Human Condition" category for her piece titled "One of the Boys."

Greene, a 2011 graduate of the J-school, produced the winning piece as part of the school's "Little Switzerland Stories" project. She previously placed second in the multimedia features category for “here, after: life, death and the space between” from the American Dream X project.

Johanna Contreras, also a 2011 graduate, place fourth in the "Human Condition" category.

Carolina is the reigning back-to-back champion in the overall intercollegiate competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards, and is currently in first place after the first two multimedia competitions.  The final Intercollegiate winners are announced in April.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program includes five writing contests, three broadcast news competitions and three multimedia competitions offering up to $500,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends.
