LaRoche — an educator with deep journalism experience at leading business and financial news outlets — builds the school’s strength in business journalism as its Hussman Professor of Business Journalism.

Eight news organizations in North Carolina have been selected to participate in a program launched by the Knight-Lenfest Newsroom Initiative in partnership with the UNC Center for Innovation & Sustainability in Local Media.

Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Local Media

The Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Local Media will support the transformation of existing news organizations and emerging community news sites through an applied research center that focuses on media sustainability and innovative news and digital product solutions. The Center is supported by a four-year grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The center will work directly with traditional as well as new media to conduct original research on business models to help local media scale for economic success.
