Start Here / Never Stop Podcast: Jason Cooper '01

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media alumnus Jason Cooper '01 is a virtual and augmented reality specialist and Chief Digital Officer at Horizon Productions.

He is a designer, developer and animator with an extensive background in web and multimedia development who has always focused on digital innovation. Cooper has been a leader and pioneer in interactive and educational multimedia. He also taught design at the Hussman School while working at UNC as part of the Institute for Science Learning.

Cooper is the Pirelli International Multimedia Award winner for Science Education, and served as a judge for the Society of News Design Multimedia Design Competitions. Cooper won numerous other awards and accolades for his work for various clients. He recently received the Triangle Business Journal Innovation Award.

He leads a talented team that has developed immersive VR and AR projects for a wide array of clientele, including IBM, Lenovo, SAS, Quintiles, Cree, Scotts, Eaton, AT&T, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. He has established many key partnerships throughout the industry, including being invited to participate in Google VR’s exclusive Jump program. This partnership allows Cooper and his team to create stereoscopic 3D 360° videos with one of the few GoPro Odyssey cameras on the East Coast. They also recently received the first Yi Halo in the world outside of Google initiatives.
