Be a part of the 2021 UNC Hussman virtual yearbook

Lights. Camera. Virtual memories.

Students, here is your chance to memorialize your hard work and effort alongside your classmates during 2020-21.

Take part in UNC Hussman’s 2021 virtual yearbook by submitting your photos (both headshots and candids) featuring UNC Hussman 2021 graduates.

Make sure to include descriptive captions with your visual work. The virtual yearbook tells a story of a resiliently excellent class in a year of unprecedented challenges. It celebrates your triumphs and perseverance.

“UNC Hussman is about storytelling. The virtual yearbook is a way for students to tell how they’re part of the UNC Hussman story,” said Laura Brache ’17, the recent alumna who is leading work on the virtual yearbook project. “They deserve to be celebrated and remembered as an outstanding and resilient class.”

The virtual yearbook celebrates December 2020, May 2021 and August 2021 graduates of the undergraduate and graduate classes.

Graduating seniors and graduate students who would like to be featured in the virtual yearbook should fill out this form.

UNC Hussman students all of years can submit their visual work featuring one or more UNC Hussman 2021 graduates at this link.

DEADLINE for submissions is Friday, May 7, at 11:59 p.m. The virtual yearbook will go live May 31.

The virtual yearbook was originally conceived for the 2019-20 school year by Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and John H. Stembler Jr. Distinguished Professor Charlie Tuggle in the wake of last year’s commencement ceremony cancellation. While the University will hold a series of scaled-down ceremonies in Kenan Stadium this year, the Orange County Health Department will not permit individual schools to hold their own.  So Tuggle and Brache got to work on a virtual yearbook to celebrate the UNC Hussman Class of 2021.

The UNC Hussman virtual yearbook features a virtual photobook listing students’ areas of study, accomplishments and interests — with pages for both undergraduate and graduate students.

It also carries messages from the dean and alumni; a creative timeline of the Hussman 2021 class’ last four years; and a chance for students to give shout-outs to faculty and staff.

Want more reason to take part in the UNC Hussman virtual yearbook? It could help your career!

UNC Hussman students should take part in the virtual yearbook, not just to remember 2020-21, but to invest in their future, said Jay Eubank, UNC Hussman’s director of career services.

“It’s always great to have ways to put your work out there for potential employers to see,” Eubank said.

Jenn Sipe, assistant director of career services, agreed.

“You just never know what could come because someone sees your work,” Sipe said. “I think the virtual yearbook is a great way to celebrate the achievements of our graduates, especially during this trying time.”

He called yearbooks “a fun way to walk through memories.”

Courtney Decker ’20, a former Hussman student ambassador who took part in last year’s virtual yearbook, also encourages students to take part.

“The COVID-19 pandemic made the virtual yearbook a timely project, for both last year and this year. I loved my time at UNC Hussman and UNC, and I felt like the virtual yearbook was a great way to honor this chapter of my life,” said Decker, who now works as a digital marketing specialist with Brady, a North Carolina-based firm offering building solutions for commercial and industrial facilities. “Now as an alumna, I know that I always have the UNC Hussman network at my disposal and having that shared experience of being a Tar Heel is invaluable when networking. The virtual yearbook makes it even easier to find and connect with fellow UNC Hussman Tar Heels.”
