Political campaigns are transforming as social media creates new ways for politicians to reach voters and showcase their platform. From well-timed tweets to digital missteps, social media has become a game-changer on the campaign trail.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media faculty members Barbara Friedman and Anne Johnston were recognized by the Carolina Center for Public Service on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as members of the fifth class of Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars.

Over 50 UNC-affiliated scholars — including two faculty members and two graduate students from the UNC School of Media and Journalism — will present authored or co-authored papers or research posters, as well as receive honors and serve as moderators, discussants and panelists at the 2016 American Political Science Association (APSA) Annual Meeting and Exhibition. This conference will take place Sept. 1-4, 2016, in Philadelphia.

Nine graduate students, 12 faculty members and 48 alumni will represent the UNC School of Media and Journalism Aug. 4–7, 2016, at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) national convention in Minneapolis.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Professor Seth Noar has been named the 2016 Outstanding Health Communication Scholar by the National Communication Association (NCA).
Noar will be recognized for the honor at NCA’s annual conference in Philadelphia on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. The award comes just months after Noar received the Lewis Donohew Outstanding Health Communication Scholar Award at the biennial Kentucky Conference on Health Communication in Lexington, Kentucky. 

A newly released book by UNC School of Media and Journalism Associate Professor Daniel Kreiss offers an analysis of the role of technology, digital media, data and analytics in contemporary political campaigning.

Five faculty members and five graduate students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media presented at the 66th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association: Communicating with Power. The conference was held June 9-13, at the Fukuoka Sea Hawk Hilton Hotel in Fukuoka, Japan.
