Assistant professor Allison Lazard’s paper, “Design simplicity influences patient portal use: the role of aesthetic evaluations for technology acceptance,” was published In the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association in December 2015.

UNC School of Media and Journalism 2016 Park Fellow and Ph.D. graduate Kylah Hedding has won the McCombs Shaw Award for Best Student Paper in Political Communication from the Political Communication Interest Group of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Hedding will present her paper at the annual AEJMC 2016 Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in August.

UNC School of Media and Journalism Associate Professor Francesca Dillman Carpentier received one of six Explorations in Global Health faculty research grants for her work in unhealthy food consumption in Chile. This year, the UNC Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases is supporting six diverse projects in Nicaragua, Liberia, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Chile and Brazil.

Finding a job after graduation can be a daunting thought for many students graduating across the nation. The doctoral students at the UNC School of Media and Journalism, however, don’t have to worry.

The UNC School of Media and Journalism has nine graduate students, four faculty members and two staff members presenting at the 14th biennial Kentucky Conference on Health Communication. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky, from April 14-16.

A dozen students and faculty from the MJ-school will be attending this year’s Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Southeast Colloquium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, March 3-6, 2016.

Brooke Erin Duffy, assistant professor in the School of Media and Communication at Temple University, will discuss her forthcoming book, “Gender and Aspirational Labor in the Social Media Economy,” on Wednesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. in the Halls of Fame room in Carroll Hall.

Two UNC School of Media and Journalism graduate students and one faculty member will present at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Midwinter Conference in Norman, Oklahoma, on Feb. 26-27, 2016, hosted this year by the Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma.

A new study co-authored by MJ-school Professor Seth Noar finds that Sheen’s disclosure is among the top 1 percent of historic HIV-related media events, providing a boon and opportunities for HIV public health campaigns.
