Three school students placed in the broadcast and writing competitions of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, known as the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism.
Ashley Lopez, a senior from Miami, placed third in the radio multimedia competition. She receives a $1,000 award and moves on to the national semifinals, where she will submit additional entries for judging.

J-school students win SABEW Best in Business

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media seniors Andrew Dunn and Matthew Lynley were named student winners in the 2009 Society of American Business Editors and Writers Best in Business contest.
The wins mark the fifth time in the six years of the contest that a UNC student has won the SABEW Best in Business Award. A UNC student finished second the other year.

Carolina photojournalism student John Adkisson, a senior from Charlotte, was named N.C. Press Photographers Association's College Photographer of the Year Sunday, Feb. 28.
Judging was held Feb. 26-27, and awards were given Feb. 28 at the NCPPA's annual meeting at Randolph Community College in Asheboro.
