Kinston High School journalist Resita H. Cox has been named the 2012 Rachel Rivers-Coffey North Carolina High School Journalist of the Year. Cox serves as editor of her high school newspaper, The Viking Press, in Kinston.
Alternates are Amulya Uppalapati of First Flight High in Kill Devil Hills and Samantha Sabin of Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte.

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is partnering with the UNC Department of History; the Curriculum in Peace, War and Defense; the Triangle Institute for Security Studies; the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies; and the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations to present “Representing the ‘Arab Spring’” on March 22 a 5 p.m.

The Washington Post research and design team, known as WaPo Labs and the creators of Trove and Social Reader, will visit the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media on Monday, Feb. 27.

Sarah Frier, a May 2011 graduate of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, is the student business journalism winner in the annual Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) Best in Business (BIB) contest. It is the fifth time in the past seven years that a UNC business journalism student has won the award.
Frier, last year's editor of The Daily Tar Heel, UNC's student newspaper, now works for Bloomberg News in New York.
