Living with Death

A multimedia project by Karla Towle: Many death row inmates who suffer from mental illness are executed, raising the question of the fairness of our justice system. Through the perspective of a family member, Rose Clark tells of her experience with the death penalty, and what it's like to face losing someone you love to capital punishment.

Men's Retirement Magazine

Men's Retirement magazine was produced by students at the UNC School of Media and Journalism to help retired men lead healthy and active lifestyles - filling a void the students noticed in newsstands. Men’s Retirement topics range from nutrition and exercise to relationships and emotional health. This issue helps readers overcome roadblocks to changing their lifestyles (p. 26) and introduces readers to new forms of exercise, such as cycling (p. 40) and yoga (p. 66). It also tackles tougher issues, such as overcoming prostate cancer (p. 30) and coping with loss (p. 36), that may arise during the course of retirement.

NBA Twitter | Undergraduate Honors Thesis

The rise of social media coupled with advancements in technology and communication have been altering the way in which organizations manage their public relations and communicate with their stakeholders and audiences. This study coded a sample of tweets sent from the official Twitter account of the NBA along with six official accounts of its franchises to identify types of content they shared, and how their Twitter efforts reflected characteristics of public relations to build relationships with their stakeholders.

Picturing Freedom

Posters on the subject of human trafficking designed by UNC School of Media and Journalism 2018 seniors Justin Wynn, Mary Catherine Young and Janie Price were awarded Grand Prize, First Prize and Honorable Mention, respectively, in a nationwide competition hosted by ArtWorks for Freedom — a sweeping win encompassing every category available to students.
