The UNC-Chapel Hill student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association present PhotoNight XXXVI with Vicki Cronis, staff photographer for The Virginian-Pilot. The event is Tuesday, March 27, in Carroll Hall room 33. The presentation starts promptly at 7:30 p.m. and finishes at 9 p.m. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m.

JOMC student places second in national business reporting competition

A UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media student has won second place in the Society of American Business Editors and Writers national student business reporting contest.
Amy Thomson, who graduated in May 2006, received her award for a story she wrote in August about gun maker Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. while she was interning for Bloomberg News in its Washington bureau.

37th Frame photojournalism exhibit at Chapel Hill Museum

Photojournalism students and the Chapel Hill Museum are hosting 37th Frame, an annual exhibition of the best work from Carolina photojournalism students.
The exhibit began March 29 will run through May 25.

National recognition for Atacama Stories multimedia documentary

Atacama Stories, a multimedia documentary about the Chilean desert known as the driest place on Earth, won second place in the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism 2007 competition in the Best Multimedia Package category for independent sites.

Alumna Pamela Duncan receives Southern writers award

Pamela Duncan, a school alumna and staff member of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health, has been awarded the James Still Award for Writing about the Appalachian South by the Fellowship of Southern Writers. The Institute for Public Health is a unit of the UNC School of Public Health.

Monica Hill, scholastic media director, honored for service
