Local election coverage 
Under a bright fall sky, Orange County voters went to the polls Tuesday to fill positions in municipal and school board elections.

Walter Mears, former AP Washington bureau chief, and Kiichiro Sato, AP photo editor in Ohio, will present an exhibit illustrating the history of the AP on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
The free, public lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. in 111 Carroll Hall.

Lauterer honored as UNC Faculty Engaged Scholar

New professorship honors Klan-fighting journalist
The children of a Klan-fighting journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize have established a $1 million professorship in his honor at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.

School winners advance to national Hearst Editorial/Columns of Opinion competition
Joseph R. Schwartz and Rachael Oehring are the school’s two winners in the Editorial/Columns of Opinion category of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
As the school winners, Schwartz and Oehring each receive $50. Their entries will be submitted to the national competition. The top prize in that competition is a $2,000 scholarship.

Carroll honored as new media pioneer
Craig Carroll, an assistant professor at the school, has been honored as a pioneer in new media from a Palo Alto, Calif.-based think tank that focuses on emerging communications technology.

 

“Picturing the World” - a major exhibition at the Ackland Art Museum - celebrates 30 years of Carolina photojournalism.

Major Chad Carroll wins national thesis award
Major Chad Carroll, who earned his master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in spring 2007, received national recognition with the Northwestern Mutual Best Master’s Thesis Award given by the Institute for Public Relations.

MTV chooses master’s student for “Choose or Lose” election project
As part of its “Choose or Lose” campaign, MTV named Carla Babb, second-year master’s student in the school, as North Carolina’s representative among 51 citizen journalists from every state and Washington, D.C. who make up “Street Team ‘08” that will cover the 2008 elections from a youth perspective and tailor their reports for mobile devices.  

Gregg Found wins school's Hearst competition for sports, advances to nationals
Gregg Found is the school’s winner in the sports category of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
