Brown is director of the Park Library, where she helps students and faculty find useful scholarly resources for their research. Brown guest lectures in classes throughout the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, on topics such as media management, digital media economics, public relations case studies and public relations campaigns. She serves as a research consultant for students working on campaigns, projects and research papers. She also purchases journals, books and databases for student research.
Brown coordinates the popular therapy pet program during exams, in which trained cats and dogs visit the library to provide stress relief. She also actively participates in celebrating the school’s First Amendment Day.
Stephanie serves as chair of the School’s assessment group, coordinating the assessment of required courses in the School of Media & Journalism as well as internships and graduate programs.
Stephanie is active in the North Carolina Library Association, currently serving as chair of marketing for this statewide library association.
Prior to her work in academic libraries, Stephanie worked at Hampshire College and as the library director for the then Springfield, Mass. Union-News. She attended the Poynter Institute seminar "News Libraries: Leadership for the 21st Century" in 1998. She currently teaches as an adjunct at UNC’s School of Information and Library Science.
