Carolina J-school students launch "Now What Argentina?" documentary multimedia website

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media released Tuesday (Oct. 12) "Now What Argentina?" (www.nowwhatargentina.org) - a collection of student-produced multimedia stories about life in Buenos Aires nearly a decade after the most devastating economic crisis in Argentina’s history.

Folkerts to step down as UNC journalism dean

Jean Folkerts, dean of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, announced Oct. 8 that she will step down as dean on June 30, 2011. Folkerts, a media historian, will remain on the school’s faculty to teach courses, conduct research and mentor students.

Two J-school projects are finalists for 2010 Online Journalism Awards

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media’s “Powering a Nation” and “Living Galapagos” multimedia sites are finalists in 2010 Online Journalism Awards given by the Online News Association. The winners will be announced in a ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Marriott Renaissance in Washington, D.C.

J-school dedicates HD studio with major gift from Capitol Broadcasting

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media announced Friday, Sept. 24, that a $400,000 gift named the school’s newly converted high definition television studio for two long-time Capitol Broadcasting Co. (CBC) executives.

Bloomberg editor Winkler speaks about FOIA and the Wall Street bailout

Matthew Winkler, Bloomberg News editor-in-chief, gave a free, public lecture at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media on Sept. 22 in the Carroll Hall auditorium on the UNC campus.
He spoke about the Freedom of Information Act and how Bloomberg has used it to get information from the Federal Reserve about the 2008 Wall Street bailout.
