National Geographic PhotoNight, Oct. 28
Photojournalist Chris Rainier, a National Geographic Fellow, will present his work Tuesday, Oct. 28, in a free, public event at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
Rainier’s talk, part of the school’s PhotoNight series sponsored by the UNC chapter of the National Press Photographer’s Association, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Carroll Hall auditorium.

TABJ scholarships for students
Monique Newton, a senior news-editorial student, and Ayana Allen, a junior broadcast student, each received a $1,000 scholarship grant from the Triangle Association of Black Journalists.

Ann Peters, director of development and outreach with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and a 1983 school alumna, will meet with students Thursday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. in Carroll Hall room 11 to discuss the center’s independent, nonprofit journalism model. The Pulitzer Center takes a multi-platform, interdisciplinary approach to covering under-reported systemic global issues.

Former Nike exec to speak
Kirk Stewart will give a public lecture - "Creating Corporate Reputation Through Strategic Communications" - on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. in Murphey 116 on the Carolina campus. His talk is sponsored by the Carolina Observatory on Corporate Reputation.

The school commemorating 100 years of journalism education at Carolina with special events during 2009 and 2010.

The University Gazette features a story about an interdisciplinary course in health communication, taught by the school's Knight Professor Jane Brown, that pools diverse perspectives to develop communications campaigns to improve public health.
