From visuals illustrating the lives of spiders to digital storytelling detailing the fates of South American immigrants, projects created by students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media won big at the recent Society for News Design Awards.

Nine graduate students, 11 faculty members and various alumni will represent the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media on May 20-26, 2020, at the 70th annual International Communication Association conference, held in a virtual format. These scholars will participate in panel sessions and present authored or co-authored papers.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Dean Susan King didn’t expect to need to enlist her husband and daughter to haul books, lights and computers to set up a home studio to connect personally with the school’s 2020 graduating students. But with these socially-distanced times, she needed to find a way.
